When you’re traveling with your pet, there are many first steps that need to be taken before that trip can begin, and at Boggy Creek Animal Hospital, we can help with some of the most important parts. Pet health certificates are required for all pets that are traveling out of the state or out of the country, especially when public transportation is being used.
Our own Dr. Keine is our resident expert on pet travel certificates and our entire team of veterinarians are USDA-accredited with years of experience in this area. We will guide you through the process of obtaining your pet’s health certificate and help answer any questions you may have about your pet’s travel requirements.
What is a Pet Health Certificate?
A pet health certificate is a document that shows that your pet has been examined by a USDA-accredited veterinarian and has been deemed free of contagious disease and fit for travel. For pets that are over three months of age, an up-to-date rabies vaccine is almost always a part of the list of requirements for a pet health certificate.
Foreign countries often require that the process of obtaining a health certificate begin between 4 and 6 months prior to travel, ensuring that your pet is fully prepared for the trip. Our doctors will work closely with you on this process, advising you along the way. While the process of obtaining a health certificate for your pet needs to start early, there are also many last-minute things that need to be taken care of. Some travelers need to obtain USDA authorization from Gainesville on short notice.
Each case is handled on an individual basis, depending on the destination of travel, among other factors. If you have specific questions about your pet’s requirements, please contact us.

Pet Boarding Requirements
Keeping our pet boarding guests comfortable and safe is very important to us. While we do all we can on our end, we need you to do your part as well. Before your pet boards with us, we need to ensure that they are up-to-date on their preventative care, not only for their safety but also for the safety of our other boarding guests. Parasites can be easily passed to other animals, so we maintain a parasite-free environment for the safety of everyone. Please ensure that your pet is up-to-date on:
- Fecal exams (medical records required)
- Vaccines (medical records required)
- Flea preventative

Pet Grooming and Bathing
It has been said that a clean pet is a happy pet. Our pets are like family members—they interact with us on a daily basis—and let’s face it—no one wants to spend a lot of time around a stinky dog or cat! We offer full cat and dog grooming services, as well as simple bathing, to ensure that your pet is in tip-top shape.
Benefits to Pet Grooming at Our Hospital
The veterinary team at Boggy Creek Animal Hospital recommends pet grooming for a variety of reasons, but the most important are the ongoing health benefits of routine grooming. Pets who are groomed on a regular basis often have a healthier coat, skin, paws, nails, ears, and more because of continued attention to their needs.
Additionally, a grooming visit offers an opportunity for our groomers to identify issues such as skin rashes or sores, ingrown nails, ear infections, and more. When issues are identified, these can be brought to your attention and your veterinarian’s attention promptly, allowing treatment to be administered right away. Because our grooming services and veterinary services are offered in the same building, our veterinarians and groomers can work together to ensure that your pet’s needs are met.
Grooming Services We Provide
The variety of grooming services we provide include:
- Blow outs
- Full-body clips on all breeds
- Medicated bathing
We can provide estimated grooming prices, based on the breed, hair type, and size of your pet. Please contact us with questions!
Pet microchips are a simple aspect of pet care, but they are also incredibly important. At Boggy Creek Animal Hospital, we recommend that all pets be microchipped as it is the one way to ensure that you and your pet are linked to each other for life. Unlike collars and tags, microchips cannot be changed or removed!
At Boggy Creek, we utilize the Home Again microchip, an internationally-recognized microchip. It’s important to remember that a microchip is not valuable to you and your pet unless that chip is registered to you. We handle the initial registration in order to insure that your investment in your pet’s safety is not wasted. You must then be sure to update your registration information whenever it changes. If you’re interested in having your pet microchipped, please contact us today to schedule this service
